CMoG 61st Annual Seminar on Glass

Date: Oct 19, 2023, (all day)
Duration - 2 days
Location - Virtual

The Corning Museum of Glass is pleased to host this two-day program of free online sessions that complements the special exhibition Dig Deeper: Discovering an Ancient Glass Workshop.

The program will explore the ways archaeologists study glass and glassmaking in the ancient world, with particular focus on the site of Jalame in modern Israel. The seminar will serve as a retrospective on the site and its discoveries, highlighting what we have learned about ancient glass production in Roman Palestine since the 1960s excavation. Presenters will share recent discoveries of ancient glass workshops, new ways of understanding the relationship between the ancient and contemporary worlds, and the process of immersing Museum visitors into an exhibition about archaeological discovery.

The two-day program will include an international roster of keynote speakers, papers, and moderated panels. Between sessions, registrants will enjoy virtual tours, glassblowing demonstrations, and opportunities to network with colleagues in Community Rooms.

All are welcome to register for the free two-day online seminar, which includes lectures, panel discussions, networking opportunities, and livestreamed glass demonstrations.
