Artist Statement:

“My glass sculpture transcends traditional boundaries, inspired by the essence of the natural world to create a reverence that is both urgent and timeless. Glass embodies the elements—hot as fire, cold as ice, grounded as earth, and ethereal as air. It invites the eye into a lambent environment where light pauses, shifts, and breathes life into the work, refracting our gaze into a moment of self-reflection. Just as the earth was forged through heat and cast by lava, I use the kiln-casting process to mirror that primal transformation. At this alchemical intersection of glass and life, we experience nature’s majesty, and we are reminded of the human condition’s profound connection to the environment. Through this deepened bond with the earth, we find a greater harmony within ourselves, these works acting as a catalyst for ecological preservation and a more sublime way of life.” -Natalie Tyler

About Natalie Tyler

Natalie Tyler’s sculptures contemplate the beauty, fragility, and elemental power of the natural world as it strives to rebalance amid the world’s turbulence. Her nature series features striking works—including WildFireTornadoEagle’s Nest, among them—that capture the profound tension between creation and reclamation. Her sculpture WildFire exhibited at the United Nations during the International Year of Glass (2022), where its message of renewal and environmental consciousness resonated with world leaders and contributed to a global dialogue on glass and sustainability.

Twice sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in Dublin, Ireland, and Tallinn, Estonia, Tyler has exhibited internationally, including at the Estonia Museum of Applied Art and Design. Eagle’s Nest was featured in the Innovators in Glass exhibition at The Sandwich Glass Museum. Her work and environmental vision have been recognized through grants and awards from the New England Foundation for the Arts, MASS MoCA, Mass Cultural Council, Berkshire Taconic Foundation, the Art Students League of New York, and Cornell University. A California native, Tyler earned her M.F.A. from the California College of the Arts in San Francisco and pursued additional study in Bologna, Italy. She now lives and works in the Berkshires.

The intersection of art and ecology is central to Tyler’s practice. Whether creating massive installations or intricate, smaller-scale sculptures, she heightens environmental awareness through forms that honor nature’s majesty and inspire hope for a more harmonious, conscientious future.
