Hana Hillerova
Czech artist Hana Hillerová brings a background in large-scale sculpture, installation, and material experimentation to her artistic practice. Working between object and process, she explores the tension between control and chance, structure, and fluidity, allowing the properties of glass to play an active role in shaping each form. Hana Hillerova
About Hana Hillerova
Hana Hillerová is a Czech visual artist and designer whose practice spans large-scale sculpture, site-specific installation, and experimental glasswork. Her practice draws on the rich glassmaking traditions of the Czech Republic while bringing a distinctly contemporary, experimental approach to the material.
She studied at Charles University in Prague before moving to the United States at the age of twenty-two to attend California Polytechnic University. She later earned a Master of Fine Arts in Visual Arts from the University of Texas at Austin, where she subsequently served as Director of the Creative Research Laboratory. In 2005, she was named Female Artist of the Year by The Austin Chronicle.
After returning to her native Prague, Hillerová joined the collective Mothers Artlovers and began exploring glass as a primary medium. Since 2020, she has focused on vessels, glass sculpture, architectural elements, and lighting, developing a practice centered on material experimentation, process, and form.
Major public commissions include a permanent installation at Houston Intercontinental Airport, and her work has been presented at major international design events including Greenhouse at Stockholm Design Week, Collectible Fair in Brussels, Lake Como Design Week, Designblok in Prague, Venice Design Week, Nomad in St. Moritz, and Milan Design Week. Hillerová recently completed a 2026 residency at the Museum of Glass in Tacoma.
