| "Dense and grounded, my sculptures are inspired by architectural forms and reference aspects of our built urban environment. Reminiscent of towering skyscrapers, compartmentalized unit blocks and industrial constructions that connect to create our urban spaces. |
|
I cast the glass in thick heavy sections and polish selected surfaces, whilst others remain patterned with grooved designs cut into the mould. This allows variation in texture and transparency, emphasising both the density and optical qualities of the glass. You may look beyond the surface of the glass and find evidence of its molten past; suspended bubbles and static veils frozen in time. The highly polished surfaces of the glass forms offer the viewer a unique opportunity to observe their inaccessible interior spaces. |

| Metal elements consist of polished planes and oxidized textural surfaces. Opaque and often reflective, the metal offers quite different characteristics to the translucent refractive qualities of the glass. The two distinctly different forms of media share each other’s space, this relationship demonstrates how they complement and balance each other. As the elements coexist they often reflect each other’s form and direction, this subtle interaction is the basis of the unity and harmony of the sculpted form as a whole." |

ARTIST'S STATEMENT
"My recent body of work takes inspiration from the built environment, aiming to
capture the essential elegance of a Modernist design aesthetic. Its formal constructs are derived from building facades, a deconstruction of the grids of vertical and horizontal planes that make up city skyscrapers. By segmenting, scaling down, refining and detailing these forms, I explored a series of sculptural variations reflecting the core, minimalist aesthetic of the modern urban scene. |

|
| As an artist, the conceptual act of deconstructing, reconstructing and the processes of making, gives me a sense of control over and a deeper understanding of the sometimes overwhelming cityscape we inhabit today." |
