Theft of Richard Marquis Objects
The Richard Marquis teapot pictured at the end of this news item, unsigned circa 1980, was stolen from his sister's home in California recently. The entire stolen lot of what is believed to be 15-16 pieces, which were not inventoried or photographed, was fenced by a young man who has since been apprehended by the police and is out on bail. Apparently some of the pieces were given to ReadyAuctionHouse to sell on EBay, where they are still listed. The owner of that EBay store cannot be located by local police. Much to the dismay of Dick's sister who is distraught to have lost these gifts from her brother over the years, it appears most of the pieces have already been sold and will be difficult to retrieve being the EBay seller is not cooperating. If you run across questionable Marquis pieces with unknown provenance, please contact Kate Elliott who is working with Dick's sister and her insurers on appraisals of the objects.
