Hi Everyone,

This has been a busy few months for the glass art community.  I have tried my best to attend all the major happenings and events — such a “chore” viewing glass and meeting artists from all over!

In December, Norman and I flew to Tel Aviv for the opening of the new Litvak Gallery. Many of you are familiar with this gallery by the spectacular booth they created for the past two SOFA shows in Chicago. Well... the actual gallery is every bit as spectacular!  Mr. Litvak hopes to create a thriving glass art community in Israel. With an opening event attended by 700 people, I think all would agree that his goal is well within reach. If you are planning a trip to Israel, this gallery is definitely a “must see.” The Litvak Gallery is located right beside the Tel Aviv Museum of Modern Art.

Another big happening in the glass art world was the relocation of the renowned Habatat Galleries from Boca Raton, Florida, to West Palm Beach. The new gallery opened in January, bringing collectors and artists together in a beautiful new two-story space. Downtown West Palm Beach is going through a renaissance and the new Habatat Galleries is clearly its jewel. This move is sure to create many new collectors in the West Palm Beach area.

A big first for me personally was the opportunity to curate the “Reflections in Glass” show at the Wayne Art Center in Wayne, Pennsylvania.  Each year the Center holds an annual “Craft Forum” to showcase the nation’s most talented craft artists. This year they included a show of glass art for the very first time!

The call for this event went out to glass artists throughout the mid-Atlantic region, including Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Delaware, Maryland, and Washington, D.C.  The level of talent was truly overwhelming, making selections extremely difficult.  My goal was to recognize a variety of techniques, sizes and colors, so the audience would get a good overview of what is happening in the glass art field. It was clear that everyone loved it, and quite a number of pieces were purchased.

There are many more events scheduled across the country in the coming months. The Glass Art Society is meeting in Louisville, Kentucky, in June. Penland’s summer program is always a happening. UrbanGlass is giving out its honorary awards at its auction in April. SOFA will be held in New York City and Santa Fe this year. And... AACG is planning a fabulous trip to Montreal in August.

I encourage you to participate in some of these exciting activities. In the meantime, keep well and let me know what you’ve seen and done in the world of glass art.
